I'm leaning towards early stoppage. Only because jiri has great defense off his back. And that's all it was turning into, was Alex mounting him. Jiri seemed to have the energy and where with all to defend from the ground and maybe even reverse. Those elbows weren't what knocked him down necessarily…. I don't know
And on top of that, it was the second time Goddard early stopped a championship fight Alex was in, in the same year….
Just kind of smells funny to me.
But the other part of me thinks, good call- saved jiri from unnecessary damage. Which meant we got to see him at 300! So I'm not complaining. Alex is the champ and I have no doubt about that whatsoever.
With all respect to Alex, i think it was too early stopped. Jiri was in much bigger troubles in fights before than here. Ref should give him more time 🙂

Not all fights are the same. This is an early stoppage. It’s a championship fight, Jiri has great recovery and everyone wanted to see more. Referees should take such things into account.

Watching it again made me realize that Pereira's striking defense is not that good he just backs up and uses his length. I think jamahal with a good game plan could win the title easily
