This is hell of a lesson for anyone and core of what every martial art can do. You can use virtualy any martial in mma assuming moves aren't banned, all you need to do it is be creative and find a way how to use it. That's what mma is all about, creativity with skills you have. Oliver demonstrated aikido principles and showed us that they can work but you as afighter need to apat them to use them. Following rues of martial arts blindly often does you more harm than good which is why reflecting on what skill you posses than discerning what you can use as is and what you can't is important. If you can't use moves from martial art you came from to mma as you were tought adapt them and find alternative way to use them. Oliver Enkamp already gave us ideas.
Stop learn aikido
Its a waste of time
Instead learn mma😂
No one working from the over under clinch, which negates striking. Aikido can be applied here. Stand up wrestling. 123 go!👏

Akido is a style of dancing.
It is mma.So much ignorance about it.
None of the Aikido techniques work, what works are basic principles of fighting that are kinda simmilar between all martial arts ie. distance, grapling, positioning etc.
I practiced Aikido. At first, I loved it. But then I realized that all the mystical stuff was bullshit. Sensei would just move his arms and I would take it upon myself (just as every other student in the room) to fly across the mat as if we'd been thrown by the Risen Jesus. Are there still some valuable principles and even techniques? Sure. Don't throw out the baby with the bathwater. That said, I've never seen a guy or gal in a Hakama win an MMA match.
Morihei Ueshiba was a true martial artist and the best of all times. Peace, harmony, joy, friendship, love, humility, kindness… 🎉 Please, read the life of Morihei Ueshiba! 🎉
Karate is better
Well,it IS a mixed martial art.
The actual MMA fight is left as an exercise for the reader
Gents, we just got a $2,000 class for free. This is amazing!
As somebody who has grown mighty tired of the usual "X art does not work in MMA" (as if that were a valid benchmark outside of a sport as regulated as MMA is) bullshit all too often spouted by BJJ practitioners, I alprove of this vid.
As an aside, I just LOVE it when they invariably drop the "Brazilian" while holding forth about how awesome their art is as if it were the only viable form of Jiu Jistsu and not an offspring of the original. Those loudmouths practise Blow Job Jitsu for all I care, up to and including Joe Rogan and Jocko.
Why not just admit that Akido is another kind of "Qigong" and start to practice in MMA skills.
That was one of the best summaries of MMA fighting strategies I've ever seen
Mma guy is an intelligent fighter, really explains fighting mechanics and techniques very well!very humble too!!👍🏻
So basically. Jujitusu works in mma
I love Oliver Enkamp his appearance in Jesse’s and Wonderboys videos are so great
it mostly doesnt work because your not getting punched on the kisser when training with aikido, ofcourse it can be intens but its not the same. just like all other "ritual fights" i did taekwondo at first wich gave me a lot of discipline. But… i quit because sparring didnt feel like real fighting.. after that i begun kickboxing wich brings pain and blood .. so yea like most people i dont like soft**
I don't see Aikido
Fascinating approach to integrating Aikido. I studied hard styles for a few yr before learning Aikido and never thought of blending them together like you did.
I doubt aikido works that well but I like the way it looks. Subtle movements wreaking havoc on the other person.
3:45 This is what Aikido is designed for: to deal with unexpected open frame conflicts with honorless attackers. MMA is a sport. Aikido is a life skill. People who shit on Aikido for not working in MMA probably spend a lot of time at the gym or in the ring, but never got in a real fight.
how Oliver moves is just a form of art. i just enjoyed to watch how he steps and dodges.
so Aikido still doesn't work in MMA on its own lol.
A martial art like Aikido is best as a complement to arts like Karate and JJ.
I can see that a practical use for it could be in LE/security work, where one doesn't want to be sued/charged/fired…or mobbed on the ground.
In the tegatama section, all I can hear is my sensei saying, "from the hips!" 🙂
The only effective move in Aikido is to turn around and run for your life.
Man you are super legit. I watched your first pressure testing video and found this one recently. I think what youre doing is smart, because the best way to have people take Aikido seriously is to take a few effective Aikido moves that can be used under the right circumstances while mixing them with striking and judo.
Aikido is not for one on one fighting. It’s for avoiding damage, when you get jumped by a group. It was never meant to be a combat art all on its own but in combination with other arts.
Aikido is a scam, its total and complete waste of time.
Why didn't he go see Segal? He makes Akido fkn dangerous.
6:24 Is anyone else seeing a knew to the inner thigh variant?
I can't say how much is background (I did American Taekwondo for 8 years, and in the last two years we worked a little with Gracie BJJ) and how much is the specific Aikido studio I went to, however many of the concepts seemed to have been illustrated better where I was training than the impression this video gives me of a normal understanding gained at a normal Aikido studio.
And I do recall the instructor mentioning how what we practiced could be adapted if necessary to self defense ie using a hold to break the arm instead of using it for a throw. I also remember there being an emphasis on disrupting the opponents balance and gauging the balance to be an important aspect that the representation of common understanding from Aikido training seems to lack.
Your just not good To represent that art
Rokas Sensei, maybe you were never taught higher level wazas, ki, and higher level secrets that are taught to only to Japanese students beyond Nidan level, especially to non Japanese? I'm in the same boat, too. I studied Traditional Japanese Jiujitsu. I'm certain that I was never taught upper level principles and wazas
